Subaru has unveiled the 2022 Ascent with the biggest update being the introduction of the new Onyx Edition. Subaru calls the Onyx Edition a new “youthful” trim level with its black-finish exterior and unique interior design details.

The Onyx Edition adds black badges, trim and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside the seats are wrapped in StarTex water-repellant material. The Onyx Edition builds upon the 7-seat Premium trim and adds reverse automatic braking, a hands-free power rear gate, a heated steering wheel, and keyless access with push-button start. There’s a single option package for $2,200, which adds a panoramic moonroof, navigation, and retractable cargo cover.

The pricing for the rest of the Ascent lineup remains unchanged for the 2022 model year, which means that it starts at $33,420, including destination. In addition to the new Onyx Edition, the Ascent is also available in Base, Premium, Limited and Touring trim levels.

All versions of the Ascent are powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT and the power is sent to all four-wheels via the Symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
