Subaru has announced that its new three-row SUV will be called the Ascent when it goes on sale in 2018. The seven-passenger Ascent is also being previewed this week at the New York Auto Show, with the debut of the Subaru Ascent concept.
This is the second concept that Subaru has unveiled to preview its new large SUV, but the latest one will likely be closer to the production model that will go on sale next year. The exterior design of the concept follows Subaru’s “Dynamic x Solid” theme with a large imposing grille to give it a true SUV look. Inside, the Ascent concept’s interior features a flowing dashboard design with a digital screen in front of the driver.
The Ascent will be based on a modified version of the Subaru Global Platform that debuted last year and will be powered by an all-new turbocharged direct injection boxer engine.
Production of the Ascent will take place at Subaru’s Lafayette, Indiana plant and it will be sold exclusively in the North American market.
