Spy photographers have caught what looks to be a higher performance version of BMW’s X5 SUV. Currently the X5 only has two engine options, a 3.0L 6-cylinder with 272 hp and a 4.8L V8 with 355 hp. From these photos it is apparent that BMW is working on an even more powerful version that will liked be called an M model.

World Car Fans is speculating that this version could be powered by the 6.0L V12 from the 760i sedan that produces 438 horsepower. The larger exhaust tips and redesigned front bumper with huge air intakes is proof that this test mule has something big under the hood.

There is no word on when this model will be introduced.
