It has been rumored that Mercedes was thinking about building a high-end sports car that would compete with the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi’s upcoming V-10 powered R8 coupe. Well now spy photographers have caught what they believe to be Mercedes upcoming new sports car that will likely be named the SLC.
According to Hans Lehmann (Hidden Image) the new SLC will be built on the next-generation SL platform and will be powered by a 6.2L AMG V8. Since the car is going to built on the SL platform it will most likely be front-engined with about 500 horsepower, although it could put out even more if the engineers decide to strap on a pair of turbos.
The hardtop is expected to be made of carbon fiber to keep the overall weight of the vehicle in check.
It is rumored that the car will be unveiled at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
