Mercedes-Benz is preparing a brand of electric vehicles that will sit under the EQ brand and now we have our first one. It’s not badged as a Mercedes-Benz, but it’s still under the Daimler umbrella, so we guess that counts. The electric smart EQ fortwo coupe and cabrio are debuting this week at the Geneva Motor Show.
“smart is electric, innovative, intelligent and totally unique, or in three words each: ‘smart EQ fortwo’ and ‘smart EQ forfour,'” says CEO of smart Dr. Annette Winkler. “With the smart EQ fortwo and forfour, we are putting the first products from the Mercedes-Benz Cars EQ family on urban roads and showing how much fun electric mobility can be.”
To introduce the new smart EQ fortwo and forfour, smart is debuting the new special nightsky edition in a unique blue EQ paint finish. The smart EQ fortwo coupe and cabrio will arrive in the US later this year. Mercedes-Benz has also announced that the first Mercedes-Benz model from the new EQ brand, the EQC, will go into production in 2019. It will be based on the Concept EQ which was shown in Paris in 2016.
