You may have never heard of Rivian, but after today’s announcement you definitely will. Rivian has unveiled its new electric pickup, called the R1T. Not only does it look cool, but it can also drive up to 400 miles on a single charge.

Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T is the first of two electric vehicles that the brand is launching this week at the LA Auto Show, with the second being the R1S electric SUV. Both vehicles are based on Rivian’s skateboard platform, which positions the battery pack, electric motors, suspension, braking and other systems all below the height of the wheels. The platform gives both vehicles a low center of gravity which also ride on a unequal length double wishbone suspension in the front and a multi-link suspension in the rear.

Both vehicles are powered by a quad-motor system that delivers 147kW of power and 3,500 Nm of torque to each wheel. The R1T and R1S can both reach 60 mph in 3 seconds and 100 mph in less than 7 seconds. The R1T can also tow up to 11,000 pounds.

Deliveries of the R1T begin in late 2020 and the R1S begin at the start of 2021. The pricing for the R1T starts at $61,500 after the Federal Tax credit. Rivian is already taking reservations with a refundable deposit of $1,000 at www.rivian.com.
