Audi has unveiled the refreshed 2014 Audi A8, which gets a refreshed exterior with the new Matrix LED headlights, engine updates and new driver assistance systems.
Audi has unveiled the refreshed 2014 Audi A8, which gets a refreshed exterior with the new Matrix LED headlights, engine updates and new driver assistance systems. On the outside the new A8 doesn’t look much different from the 2013 model, but the engine hood, grille and the front bumper have been restyled. The rear of the A8 gets redesigned LED taillights and a redesigned bumper.
The big news for the 2014 A8 is the addition of the new Matrix LED headlights. With these headlights, the high-beam comprises 25 individual light-emitting diodes per unit that can be switched on and off or dimmed individually depending on the situation. This enables the headlight system to react extremely precisely to other vehicles while always brightly illuminating the road. Additional features of the new headlights are the intelligent cornering light, new-look daytime running lights and dynamic turn signals. The lighting system in the A8 uses predictive route data from the navigation system to adjust the distribution of light in response to the current driving situation. In combination with the optional Navigation plus with MMI touch, the system recognizes route data contained in the navigation system, such as curves and road classifications.
Under the hood the 2014 A8’s engine lineup ranges from the 310-hp supercharged 3.0 TFSI, the 435-hp V8 twin-turbo 4.0 TFSI and all the way up to the 6.3L 12-cylinder in the Audi A8 L W12 quattro that packs 500 horsepower. There are also the 3.0L and 4.2L diesel engines in addition to the A8 hybrid that combines a 2.0 TFSI and electric motor to produce a system output of 245 hp.
The 2014 A8 also gets new driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function, Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist and a night vision assistant.
