Porsche has already confirmed that the next-generation Porsche 911 will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain as part of its mid-cycle updates, but now a new report claims that Porsche may eventually offer two plug-in hybrid 911 models.
The next-generation Porsche 911 is scheduled to arrive next year, which will eventually get debut the first ever 911 plug-in hybrid. According to Auto Express, Porsche is now deciding if it should offer two plug-in hybrid 911 models. The first 911 plug-in hybrid, which is already confirmed will be an alternative to the base 911 Carrera, but Porsche is also looking at the idea of offering a second 911 plug-in hybrid that will be positioned at the top of the lineup, next to the 911 Turbo.
The first 911 plug-in hybrid will likely be powered by a turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine and an electric motor with the combined output being around 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. of torque. That’s enough power to give it a 0-60 mph time in less than four seconds and a top speed over 180 mph. Those specs are great, but there’s even more potential with a second 911 plug-in hybrid that could be more on par with the performance of the 911 Turbo.
The report only claims that Porsche is considering the idea of a second, more powerful 911 plug-in hybrid, but it doesn’t go into any specifics about the powertrain.
