Porsche is now fully committed to electrifying its lineup, since it has announced that it will invest more than $7.5 billion by 2022 to increase its lineup of plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. The production version of the Mission E concept will obviously head up this plan.

Porsche electrification

A big portion of the investment ($623 million) will be used to develop additional versions
of the Mission E and other models that will be based on the electric sedan. Another $1.24 billion will go to adding hybrid versions of its current models, while $872 million will be used for new technologies, charging infrastructure and smart mobility.

Part of the investment is also being used for a new paint shop, dedicated assembly area and a conveyor bridge for transporting the Mission E’s painted bodies and drive units to the final assembly area in Zuffenhausen. Porsche’s existing engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric drives and the body shop will also be developed.

So far the Mission E project has created 1,200 new jobs. The electric sedan is expected to arrive sometime next year. When it does arrive, it’s being reported that it will be available with three powertrain options.
