Hyundai has announced that a fleet of its new Nexo fuel cell vehicles have successfully traveled 118 miles from Seoul to Pyeongchang autonomously. This marks the first time in the world that level 4 autonomous driving has been achieved with a fuel cell vehicle.
Three Hyundai Nexo fuel cell vehicles with autonomous driving tech set off on their journey alongside two Genesis G80 autonomous vehicles. The drive took place on February 2, where the autonomous vehicles were able to execute lane changes and overtaking maneuvers, and navigated toll gates using Hi-pass, South-Korea’s wireless expressway payment system.
“Hyundai’s philosophy for developing autonomous driving technology is to provide the highest level of safety combined with a high standard of convenience that our customers expect,” said Jinwoo Lee, head of the Intelligent Safety Technology Center at Hyundai Motor Group.
