Porsche is going to increase production of its popular Cayenne SUV next year after a huge surge in demand increased sales by 37 percent in the first six months of this year.

Cayenne production is going to increase by 10 to 20 percent starting in 2012. In some markets delivery times have been as long as 12 months, but Porsche wants to make sure the wait time is no longer than six months. Porsche sales chief Bernhard Maier stated, “We’re now looking into ways we can expand production capacity to be able to serve our customers more quickly.”

Porsche expects to double its sales to about 200,000 vehicles by 2018. A large part of those sales will come from the Cayenne and the upcoming Cajun compact SUV.
