Less than a decade after Porsche introduced its first diesel engine in the Cayenne, Porsche has now closed the books on its diesel models. Porsche has officially ended production of all of its diesel models, due to changing customer demand and the stronger focus on electrified models.
According to a Porsche spokesman, there has been a “cultural shift” with Porsche buyers. Porsche’s last two diesel models, the Macan S diesel and Panamera 4S diesel have now been discontinued. Porsche released a quick statement, about the change by confirming that the Macan S diesel has been “taken out of the production program.”
The falling demand for its diesel models is linked to the decision to discontinue them. Last year the diesel-powered Panamera only accounted for 15 percent of all Panamera sales, while the gasoline versions accounted for 35 percent, while the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid took the biggest slice at 50 percent.
