Porsche has confirmed that production of its newest SUV, the Cajun will commence at the end of 2013.

The announcement was part of Porsche’s announcement about plans to expand its production facility in Leipzig, Germany that will produce the Cajun.

“We are investing another 500 million euro [$684.9 million] in the production facility to build the Cajun in Leipzig. This is not just a mark of confidence in the manufacturing skills of our Leipzig colleagues, but also an important contribution to the economic development of the region,” said Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Board of Management.

The Leipzig plant currently produces the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera models. Adding the Cajun to the plant will add 1,000 jobs.

The Porsche Cajun will be built on the same platform as the Audi Q5 and will slot in below the Cayenne (above) in the Porsche lineup.
