Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S debut with 4-cyl engines

Porsche has unveiled the new 718 Boxster and Boxster S, which are now both powered by new turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

Porsche has unveiled the new 718 Boxster and Boxster S, which are now both powered by new turbocharged four-cylinder engines.
Starting with the 718 Boxster. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0L flat four that generates 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque. Even though the engine is down two cylinders compared to the outgoing 2.7L, the new four-cylinder engine generates 35-hp and 74 lb-ft more than the old engine. The 718 Boxster S is powered by a 2.5L with 350 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque – an increase of 35-hp and 43 lb-ft of torque.

With the PDK transmission and Sport Chrono Package, the 718 Boxster can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph. The 718 Boxster S is a bit faster at 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 177 mph. Even though both models are now more powerful, fuel efficiency hasn’t taken a hit, since fuel consumption has been improved by up to 13 percent.

Although the 718 Boxster and Boxster S don’t look very different on the outside compared to their predecessors, there are some small styling changes. From the front you’ll notice new headlights and large air intakes and as you move back you’ll also notice larger air intakes. At the rear there are new taillights and a new accent strip.

The 718 Boxster and Boxster S models will go on sale in June. The 718 Boxster starts at $57,050 with the destination fees included, while the 718 Boxster S starts at $69,450.
