Polestar is already taking orders for the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe, but it’s high price tag and coupe body style will probably keep it off most buyer’s lists. Polestar’s next model will likely appeal more to the masses, since the Polestar 2 is aimed directly at the Tesla Model 3.
Polestar hasn’t released that many details about the Polestar 2, but a new report claims that we’ll get to see it when it debuts next spring at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. According to Evo, the Polestar 2 will debut in Geneva and will be based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). It will also feature a fully electric powertain, unlike the Polestar 1.
Since the Polestar 2 is Polestar’s direct rival to the Model 3, it’s no surprise to hear that the Polestar 2 will have a driving range around 310 miles. Polestar will also position the Polestar 2 as a performance oriented electric car, since Polestar’s chief operating officer Jonathan Goodman told the publication that its models will “be designed as driver’s cars.” Production of the Polestar 2 is slated to begin by the end of 2019.
Goodman also provided some details about the upcoming Polestar 3 electric crossover. “The Polestar 3 will be a coupe-style SUV and it’s not our plan to do a reskinned XC90 or anything like that. The XC90 is very much a Volvo car, the Polestar 3 will be about drivability, it’ll be about design and about offering something different.” Goodman stated. The Polestar 3 will arrive by the end of 2021.
