The Nissan Frontier hasn’t been redesigned since 2004, which makes it a dinosaur in the midsize pickup truck segment. Well Nissan is close to fixing that, since the 2021 Frontier will be mostly redesigned.

2019 Nissan Frontier

According to Automotive News, the 2021 Nissan Frontier is slated to arrive by the end of 2020. It won’t be all-new, since the 2021 Frontier will still be based on the current Frontier’s F-Alpha platform, instead of the Navara’s newer platform.

It’s not known why Nissan has chosen to keep the aging platform alive, but cost is likely a factor. The Navara isn’t sold in other markets with four full-size doors, which would cost Nissan more money to develop the Frontier on that platform.

It’s being reported that the 2021 Frontier will have a “futuristic” look. Under the hood it will also be powered by a new 3.0L V6 that should generate around 300 horsepower. It will replace the old 261-hp 4.0L V6. The new V6 will also be mated to a seven speed transmission.
