The Land Rover Defender is one of the most iconic SUVs, long before the SUV was even a thing. Sadly it was discontinued last year after a 60 year production run, but according to Land Rover design boss, Gerry McGovern, the new Defender is “not far away.”

Reports claim that the new Land Rover Defender will arrive in 2018

The new Land Rover Defender could arrive as early as next year. When it does return, Land Rover is going to position the new Defender to appeal to not only fans of the last model, but a new generation of buyers. “The anticipation is incredible,” McGovern recently stated.

Land Rover hasn’t released any details about the new Land Rover Defender, but McGovern did reveal that the new model will keep an emotional connection to the original. But to win over new buyers, the new Defender will get more than just a simple update to the old model to meet the latest crash standards.

“This was a vehicle that for a very long time was the emotional core of our brand. In order to move our brand forward we need to create desirable and relevant vehicles to appeal to a wider group of customers.”
