The Nissan Leaf is currently the most popular fully-electric vehicle on the market and Nissan hopes to keep that title with a “high-output” version of the next Leaf that could have an even longer driving range than the upcoming Bolt.
Now that Chevy has officially upped the ante with the debut of the 200-mile range Chevy Bolt electric vehicle, it’s time for other EVs to follow suit. The Nissan Leaf is currently the most popular fully-electric vehicle on the market and Nissan hopes to keep that title with a “high-output” version of the next Leaf that could have an even longer driving range than the upcoming Bolt.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn recently revealed at the Detroit Auto Show that the next Leaf will likely have a driving range that is at least twice as far as the current model. “We want to be competitive; It may have even more [than 200 miles of] range.

There are some reports that claim that Nissan may be targeting as high as a 250 mile range, which will be achieved with updated lithium-ion battery technology. We can also expect the next Leaf to ditch its dorky styling for a more conventional exterior. The next Leaf is expected to arrive by 2017.
