Mazda has yet to confirm it, but a new report claims that Mazda will reveal the next-generation Mazda3 in November at the LA Auto Show. Mazda previewed the new Mazda3 last fall with the Kai concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.

According to Auto Express, the new Mazda3 will debut later this year and will be the first model to be based on Mazda’s all-new SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture. The new platform will not only offer a more refined Mazda3, but it will have a lower seating position to give a sportier feel. The platform will also arrive with the Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X engine.

The new SkyActiv-X engine uses a proprietary combustion method called Spark Controlled Compression Ignition that overcomes two issues that have impeded commercialization of compression ignition gasoline engines. It maximizes the zone in which compression ignition is possible to achieve a seamless transition between compression ignition and spark ignition.

The new engine will also use a supercharger that will help it produce 10-30 percent more torque than Mazda’s current SkyActi-G engine. Plus the new SkyActiv-X engine will also be 20-30 percent more fuel efficient.
