Mazda recently announced plans to introduce a new lineup of plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles by 2025. It also confirmed that it expects that all of its vehicles will have some sort of electrification by 2030, so what does that mean for the much loved MX-5 Miata?

Mazda has confirmed that the next-generation MX-5 Miata will have an electrified powertrain. “Mazda is seeking to electrify the MX-5 Miata in an effort to have all models feature a form of electrification by 2030. We will work hard to make it a lightweight, affordable, open two-seater sports car in order to meet the needs of customers.”

Right now we don’t have any details about the next-generation Miata, so it’s not known if it will be a hybrid or an EV.
