Chrysler CEO Sergion Marchionne recently confirmed that the next-generation Chrysler Town & Country will see the return of all-wheel-drive. The Detroit News is reporting that the next-generation Chrysler minivan will continue to be a traditional minivan, but the platform will also be used for a new crossover type of vehicle.

The Town & Country was offered with all-wheel-drive until the 2004 model year, when it was killed due to the packaging needs of then new Stow ‘n Go seating system. The new Chrysler minivan was due in 2014, but that plan has been pushed up.

Marchionne: “We need to be more competitive, so we made it a priority to replace it faster than we originally thought.”

It’s expected that the new models will be released by 2013.
