The next-generation Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups are slated to arrive for the 2023 model year. We don’t have a lot of details yet about GM’s new midsize pickups, but a new report claims that they will ditch all the current engines and instead only be powered by one engine.
Muscle Cars and Trucks is reporting that the 2023 Colorado and Canyon will be powered by the same turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder that’s currently offered in the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. The four-cylinder generates 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft. of torque in the full size pickups. The current V6 generates 308-hp and the diesel has 369 lb-ft. of torque.
If the report is accurate, that means that the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, the 3.6-liter V6, and the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel that are currently offered will not be around much longer.
The 2023 trucks will be based on evolution of the current 31XX platform, which will be called 31XX-2.
