Coupes and convertibles are a hard sell in today’s crossover-loving climate, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a new report claims that the next-generation Audi TT will only be offered as a four-door coupe.
A new report from Auto Express claims that the next-generation Audi TT will ditch the current coupe and convertible versions for a more practical four-door coupe layout. An Audi board member told Auto Express, “If you set falling demand against rising costs, it’s obvious Audi cannot sustain its present course in the medium term. Instead, there has been intensive consideration of the coupe and the convertible in the compact segment.”
Audi actually hinted at a four-door TT back in 2014 with the TT Sportback concept, but it didn’t get the green light since Audi was hit hard with the Dieselgate scandal. Now it appears that plans are back on for a four-door TT, which may arrive within the next two years. The four-door TT will likely be about the same size as the TT Sportback concept and will be based on the MQB platform, which is used by the current TT and the A3.
