Opel has released a teaser of a new small car that will join its lineup next summer – the five-door Opel Karl. The Karl will fill the void in GM’s European lineup when the Chevy Spark and the rest of the Chevy brand pulls out of Europe in late 2015.
With an exterior that stretches 145 inches, the Karl is a few inches longer than the Spark. According to sources the Karl’s exterior will borrow some styling cues from the larger Opel Adam and Corsa models. Opel is expected to officially unveil the Karl at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Where does the name ‘Karl’ come from? The Karl name pays homage to one of Adam Opel’s sons – who had founded the company in 1862. While Adam had turned Opel into the largest bicycle manufacturers of the world, his sons Carl, Wilhelm and Friedrich started the automobile company in 1898, building their first car the following year.
