Fiat Chrysler and Groupe PSA’s new name is Stellantis

Last fall Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French Groupe PSA announced a merger that would bring together several brands, like Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Vauxhall. Now the automakers have announced their new name as part of the merger, “Stellantis.”

The Stellantis name is is rooted in the Latin verb “stello” meaning “to brighten with stars.”

“It draws inspiration from this new and ambitious alignment of storied automotive brands and strong company cultures that in coming together are creating one of the new leaders in the next era of mobility while at the same time preserving all the exceptional value and the values of its constituent parts.”

The interesting name will only be used to identify the corporate brand, so luckily the names and logos of the constituent brands will remain the same.
