BMW confirms the ultra luxurious $100k X7 SUV

BMW has already confirmed plans to introduce a new X7 flagship SUV, but now the automaker has confirmed that it will also offer an ultra luxurious version with a price tag well north of $100k. While the standard X7 will have room for up to seven passengers, the second, more luxurious version will only seat four passengers.

The ultra luxurious X7 is part of BMW’s plans to expand its GKL models (Grand Klasse in German), which already consists of the new 7-Series. The X7 will be larger with different styling than the X5. BMW will also build the X7 at its Spartanburg, S.C. starting in 2018.

There has been some speculation that the X7 could share some parts with the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but BMW’s sales boss Ian Robertson has killed those rumors.

Robertson also confirmed that BMW is working on another “GKL” model, but it’s not known if it will be an 8- or 9-Series. The new model “is well under way, we will see it in the not too distant future. This is not something we dreamt up last week,” Robertson told Automotive News.

At the other end of the spectrum, BMW has also confirmed plans to introduce the X2, a coupe version of the X1 next year.
