On 2WD models, the diesel powered pickups can tow up to 7,700 pounds and the estimated fuel economy is expected to easily top any of the Colorado or Canyon’s gas powered rivals. GM also says the 2.8L engine is the cleanest diesel truck engine that it has ever produced. The diesel engine is also mated to a standard six-speed automatic.

Pricing for the Duramax diesel is set at $3,370 more than a comparably equipped V6 Colorado or Canyon. The Colorado diesel will be offered in LT and Z71 Crew Cab models, while the Canyon diesel will be offered in SLE and SLT Crew Cab models. Buyers can choose either 2WD or 4WD.
