Kia recently confirmed that it is developing a special Pro-Cee’d that will be a VW GTI rival. The new high-performance Kia will be based on the next-generation model and will be powered by a new direct-injection 1.6L engine with at least 200 horsepower.
It was originally thought that Kia would use a larger 2.0L engine, but to keep costs down, the 1.6L option was chosen.
Kia’s Managing Director of Kia UK stated, “The sports models aren’t there for volume. They’ll just be a boost to the brand’s image – particularly in the UK.”
The GTI fighter will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2013.
