MINI has already announced plans to introduce a new electric car next year and now the brand is expanding its EV ambitions with future plans to produce electric vehicles in China. The BMW Group has signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture with the China’s Great Wall Motor to produce electric vehicles in the country.

The next steps are for both companies to choose of production location and finalize the investment figures for the venture.

This is BMW’s second joint venture in China, since it teamed up with Brilliance in China in 2003.

The expansion of MINI’s electric models could eventually lead to the brand switching to a full electric lineup. Late last year it was reported that BMW is thinking about making the MINI brand all-electric to boost its sales.
