Mercedes-Benz is going to officially unveil the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class on September 2, but today the automaker has released some details about its new safety systems. In particular, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the new S-Class will get new airbags that protect rear passengers in a front crash.

The new S-Class will be the first car equipped with airbags that are designed to protect rear-seat passengers in the event of a frontal impact. The new airbags also to child seats. Mercedes-Benz has amped up the safety of rear seat passengers with the new airbags and the optional Belt Bag and inflatable seatbelts.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also get the automaker’s new Pre-Safe Impulse Side function system that uses radar sensors to identify an imminent side impact. It protects the occupants not only by using air cushions in the seats to move the front passengers towards the center of the vehicle, but also by simultaneously raises the entire vehicle to divert the impact through stiffer structures.
