Mercedes-Benz to Expand the C-Class Lineup to Challenge the BMW 3 Series

Mercedes-Benz is currently working on the next generation C-Class, which will add more versions that the current model to go head to head with the BMW 3 Series. Mercedes-Benz is reportedly going to add a convertible and diesel and hybrid sedans to the C-Class lineup when the next C-Class debuts next year.
BMW currently offers coupe, convertible, sedan, wagon, diesel and hybrid versions of the 3 Series. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon stated, “We were fighting the 3 series with two arms tied behind our back, and now we will change that.”

The new C-Class will debut next January at the Detroit Auto Show and will go on sale in August 2014. In early 2015 the C-Class coupe will be released and a convertible version is expected to go on sale in 2015 followed by the diesel and hybrid models. The hybrid will also reportedly arrive in 2015.

Lastly the next C-Class will also get a new 2.0L turbocharged engine that will be produced by Daimler and Nissan at Nissan’s plant in Dechard, Tennessee. The 2.0L four-cylinder engine will only be offered in the US.
