Is Mazda cooking up a new coupe for its lineup? It’s been discovered that Mazda recently trademarked the MX-6 name with the Japanese Patent Office in October, but it’s not yet known is a new MX coupe is actually coming.
AutoGuide discovered the trademark, which lists that it could be used for “automobiles and parts and accessories thereof.” While the MX-6 trademark doesn’t necessarily mean that Mazda is working on a new sports car, it could be something that it needs as it tries to position it self as a more premium alternative to Honda and Toyota.
Sadly Mazda also recently confirmed that it has no plans for a new rotary-powered sports car, so if the Mazda MX-6 is coming, it will be powered by a traditional engine. Lets hope that it does get some inspiration from the RX Vision Concept.
Stay tuned.
