Lincoln is reportedly jumping on the electric bandwagon, like Volvo, Maserati and Jaguar. By 2022 Lincoln will offer a hybrid version of its entire lineup.

The news isn’t too surprising, since Lincoln already offers a hybrid version of the MKZ and a report about a hybrid Navigator SUV recently surfaced as well. Could the new hybrid lineup give Lincoln an edge over Cadillac and other luxury brands?

The first hybrid Lincoln models to arrive will be the hybrid Navigator and MKC crossover. As each model in the Lincoln lineup is redesigned, a hybrid version will also be introduced. A hybrid version of the upcoming Aviator crossover is due in 2019, which will be followed by the new MKZ in 2020 and the redesigned Continental in 2022.

The overall plan is part of Ford’s larger goal to offer hybrid versions of all of its U.S. models by 2022. Ford could also introduce a fully-electric Lincoln to secure the brand’s future in China.
