Currently Lexus uses a 5.0-liter V8 for its sports cars, like the RC F and LC, but we’ve been wondering how long the naturally-aspirated V8 will power its high-performance models. Well now Lexus has confirmed that it is working on a new twin-turbocharged V8.

In a press release from the Toyota Gazoo racing team, Toyota announced that it will compete with a Lexus LC in the 48th 24 Hours of Nürburgring Endurance Race, which is also referred to as the Nürburgring 24 Hours Race.

The team will compete with the LC and use the experience to develop new technologies, including “a newly-developed V8 twin-turbo engine destined for use on future road cars such as sports cars.”

Right now not much is known about the new V8, but it is rumored to have over 600 horsepower. The new engine could arrive under the hood of the upcoming LC F.
