Land Rover recently announced plans to add electrified versions of its entire lineup by 2020 and it’s already sticking that to commitment with the plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. According to a new report, the Land Rover Discovery Sport plug-in hybrid will arrive by early 2019.

2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport Landmark edition

Autocar is reporting that early next year the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be getting a facelift, which will also see the introduction of hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The updated Discovery Sport will be heavily updated to not only improve its driving comfort, but to also make room for the lithium-ion batteries for the new hybrid versions.

Land Rover hasn’t revealed any details about the Land Rover Discovery hybrid or plug-in hybrid models, but it’s expected that the electrified powertrain will mate a three-cylinder Ingenium engine to an electric motor. The Discovery Sport plug-in hybrid will store its lithium-ion battery pack under the central floor section, which means that there shouldn’t be any huge compromises in terms of cargo capacity. The Discovery Sport mild hybrid could use either an electrified turbocharger or a belt-assist starter/generator.

On the outside there the updated Discovery Sport will get some styling changes to make it around 10 percent more aerodynamic. Also thanks to an improved engine mount design and transmission, the Discovery Sport will have a “40% better” throttle response.
