Today Lamborghini is anything but “green” with its large powerful V12 powered supercars, but that could change in the near future. Lamborghini has unveiled the Terzo Millennio electric concept, which is its first fully electric concept car, ever.

Lamborghini teamed up with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create the Terzo Millennio concept, which is so futuristic that it will be years before some of the concept’s technology actually shows up in a production model. The concept doesn’t use the typical battery packs that today’s electric car’s use and instead it’s powered by supercapacitors and energy storage that’s integrated into the carbon fiber body panels.

The supercapacitors provide rapid recharging capability and carbon fiber nanotubes that are sandwiched between the body panels does away with the need for a big, bulky battery pack. Even better, Lamborghini says that the concept’s carbon fiber structure has the ability to identify and “heal” small cracks in its substructure. Liquid filled micro-channels will repair the structure.

Lastly the Terzo Millennio is powered by four electric motors, one in each wheel to give the concept all-wheel drive.
