It’s been 60 years since the first Lamborghini appeared, a birth being celebrated by the automaker with the debut of the Lamborghini Revuelto Opera Unica at Art Basel in Miami Beach. The car is being exhibited alongside artwork commissioned by Lamborghini dealers from across America in celebration of the brand’s 60th anniversary.

On hand for the reveal were Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stephan Winkelmann, joined by Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, Federico Foschini; Design Director, Mitja Borkert; Chief Technical Officer, Rouven Mohr; and Lamborghini America Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Baldi.

“In the context of Art Basel Miami Beach, design is also art,” CEO Stephan Winkelmann said. “It is for this reason we chose the occasion to unveil the Revuelto Opera Unica, celebrating the magnificence of the Revuelto’s technique and design.”

The Revuelto is a first for the brand as it begins a new decade. It’s Lamborghini’s initial plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, albeit one with a V-12 engine. This is a Lamborghini, after all. But more than most Lambos, this one is definitely not suited for those in the witness protection program.

The car’s wildly exotic hand-painted exterior fades from purple to black with any number of brighter brushstrokes punctuating the darker hues. It required 76 hours of testing and 435 hours to pull off. The interior required an additional 220 hours.

Color us impressed.

The exhibit runs through Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Gallery, 1330 18th Street, Miami Beach.
