Diesel powered vehicles are making a comeback with Ford announcing the first diesel for the 2018 F-150 and Chevy also confirming a diesel for the 2019 Silverado. While we’re still waiting for the Mazda CX-5 Diesel, Kia has confirmed that a diesel powered version of the 2019 Sorento is on its way.

2019 Kia Sorento

Kia announced the new Sorento Diesel as part of the SUVs mid-cycle refresh and now Kia’s vice president of product planning, Orth Hedrick has confirmed that it is on its way. In a recent chat with Car and Driver, Hedrick confirmed that Kia is currently working wiht the EPA to certify the Sorento Diesel.

If Kia does receive the approval to sell it in the United States, the 2019 Kia Sorento Diesel could arrive by the end of the year or in early 2019. Kia hasn’t announced which diesel engine will power the Sorento, but it’s expected that it’s the same 2.2L four-cylinder diesel that’s offered in Europe. In Europe the engine generates 197 horsepower and 325 lb-ft. of torque. It should have a highway rating over 30 mpg.
