Chevy already gave us a quick look at the all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 at its 100 year celebration last month in Texas, but now we have all the official details about the all-new Silverado. While the 2019 Silverado obviously has a new look inside and out, some of the bigger updates are that the truck now weighs up to 450 pounds less than its predecessor and it debuts a more functional bed.

The 2019 Silverado has grown a bit with its wheelbase growing 3.9 inches and its length being stretched 1.6 inches. The longer length provides more cargo and interior volume, but even with the larger size, the 2019 Silverado comes in much lighter with 450 pound weight reduction.

The weight savings comes from extensive use of mixed materials and new manufacturing processes. To start, the body is 88 pounds lighter than before due to mixed materials use. The doors, hood and tailgate are made of aluminum while fixed panels. The fully boxed steel frame is also 88 pounds lighter than its predecessor, while eighty percent of the frame is made of high-strength steel.

The 2019 Silverado’s suspension is also lighter tanks to new forged-aluminum upper control arms that are lighter. The live-axle rear suspension also gets new carbon-composite second-stage springs on LT models that save about 12 pounds per side over the steel springs they replace.

Under the hood the 2019 Silverado will be available with six engine/ transmission combinations, which includes new 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines. The 2019 Silverado will also be available with a new 3.0L six-cylinder turbo-diesel. The 3.0L diesel and 6.2L V8 get a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Silverado will be available with a power up/down tailgate that can be operated from the key fob, interior button or by hand. Other changes include available task lighting, a 120-volt power outlet and larger cutouts in the class-exclusive CornerStep bumpers to better accommodate steel-toed boots.
