Kia is reportedly working on a new small crossover that will join a rapidly growing list of competitors that includes the new Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V. The new Kia crossover is about 12 to 18 months away according to one report that also claims that it will be inspired by the Niro concept.
Kia’s vice-president of its overseas marketing group, Soon-Nam Lee recently spoke to Motoring where it was revealed that the details about the small Kia crossover. The biggest news is that it will look as close as possible to the Niro concept that debuted last year. Kia wants to keep the final design close to the concept, since “It was well accepted from the customer side.”

When it does go on sale in 2016, the new crossover will be offered with a range of engines that could include a 1.6L four-cylinder, a larger 2.0L and even a diesel engine in Europe.
