In addition to the news about the upcoming Chrysler Pacifica-based crossover, Chrysler has also revealed more news about the upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne recently confirmed to Motor Trend that the debut of the Wrangler pickup has been pushed back to late 2019.

The reason that Jeep decided to push back the release from early 2019 is due to demand for the regular Wrangler, which is more of a priority. “The product is done,” he revealed, but Jeep is currently producing both the old and new Wranglers at its Toledo, Ohio plant. Once production of the outgoing Wrangler is done, then Chrysler will be able to start producing the Wrangler pickup.

“We can’t lose any Wranglers. Unfortunately the financial damage associated with a shutdown of the plant in Toledo is tremendous, so we decided to keep on running the old Wrangler while this one was coming out.”

The 2017 Jeep Wrangler will continue to be produced until March, once production is done, it will take Chrysler at least nine months to retool the plant for the Wrangler pickup. “So we will see it sometime in the beginning of 2019. It’s going to be a huge thing.”
