Chrysler’s current lineup is looking quite sparse with only the 300 and Pacifica, but mid-2019 Chrysler will get a new Pacifica-based crossover. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne recently confirmed that most of the work is done on the new crossover, so it could arrive within the next 18 months.
“It’s there. We have the car designed and we’re ready to go,” Marchionne revealed to Motor Trend about the Pacifica-based crossover. “The platform is ready, and the plant can take it. We can probably get it up and running in 18 months.”
Marchionne didn’t provide any other details, but since the new crossover will share its platform with the Pacifica minivan, it’s expected that it will have three rows of seats. The new Chrysler crossover will also likely share the same 3.6L and plug-in hybrid powertrains. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard news about a Chrysler crossover, since it was reported a while ago, but the automaker decided to continue making the Dodge Grand Caravan instead.
