Infiniti has released all the info and photos of its newest prototype, the Infiniti Project Black S, which is debuting this week at the Paris Motor Show. The Project Black S is based on the Q60 coupe, but the Q60’s conventional engine has been swapped out for a new dual-hybrid powertrain that generates a total 563 horsepower.

The new dual-hybrid technology is derived from Formula One and according to Infiniti, it has the potential to show up under the hood of a future “performance flagship.” The new hybrid powertrain pairs the brand’s VR30 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo with three electric motor-generators. A single MGU-K electric motor harvests kinetic energy from braking, while two MGU-H electric motors harvest heat energy from exhaust gases.

The energy harvested by the three MGUs is stored in a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, located in the rear compartment. The power recovered by the MGUs is used in two ways, first to help spool up the turbine blades within the e-turbos and to power the MGU-K motor.

The hybrid powertrain gives the Project Black S a 0-60 mph time under four seconds.

Infiniti hasn’t announced any production plans for the Project Black S, since right now the prototype is being used as a testbed for the brand’s future technologies.
