Infiniti hasn’t offered a flagship sedan since the Q45 left the lineup in 2006 and although it does offer the large and in charge QX80 flagship SUV, it’s quite obvious that a larger sedan is needed. Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti’s head of design recently chatted with Car and Driver, where he hinted that Infiniti could be working on a new flagship sedan.

Although he didn’t reveal too much about Infiniti’s future plans, Albaisa did confirm that Infiniti is going to bring a new concept to the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. The new concept is expected to start “an interesting conversation” about a new flagship Infiniti sedan.

“In Detroit, we will show something about that subject which is super nice,” he revealed. But it won’t be a conventional sedan, since “The straight sedan is losing a little bit of appeal again.”

The last time that Infiniti hinted at a flagship sedan was in 2014 with the Inspiration Q80 concept, but that concept never made the transition to a production model. We’ll have to wait and see what Infiniti has planned for its next concept.
