It’s been a few years since Hyundai tested the waters with the Santa Cruz pickup concept and although there have been rumors that the truck would enter production, Hyundai hasn’t made any announcements. Now Hyundai is giving a few details about the Santa Cruz concept, including hints that it will arrive in 2020.

Speaking to Motor Trend, Brian Smith, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, stated that the Sant Cruz concept would not go into production this year or next year. “We have a lot of product development going on,” said Smith. “We need to prioritize.” It’s expected that the production version will arrive in 2020.

It’s been three years since the Santa Cruz concept debuted and originally the concept was given the green light in 2016 with production slated to begin in 2018. Sadly the concept was put on the back burner when CEO Dave Zuchowski left the company.

It’s not known how close the production version will be to the concept, but it’s expected that the Santa Cruz will be based on the new Tucson, which is also due in 2020.
