Hyundai has revealed the refreshed 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models at the Chicago Auto Show. The overall design is similar to the refresh that the regular Sonata with a bolder front fascia and more modern rear.
Other upgrades include new wheel designs, a new instrument panel center stack, steering wheel, available audio/video navigation system, wireless phone charging and a rear USB charge port.
The 2018 Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that houses a 38 kW electric motor. The Sonata Hybrid’s engine generates 154 horsepower and 140 lb. ft. of torque, while the electric motor produces 51 horsepower and 151 lb. ft. of torque. Combined the hybrid system generates 193 horsepower. The Sonata Hybrid is rated at 39 mpg in the city, 45 mpg on the highway and 42 mpg combined.
The 2018 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid features the same powertrain as the Sonata Hybrid, but a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, more than five times larger than the Sonata Hybrid’s battery, gives the Sonata Plug-in Hybrid an all-electric range up to 27 miles.
The 2018 Sonata Hybrid will arrive in the first quarter of 2018, while the Sonata Plug-in Hybrid will arrive in the second quarter of 2018.
