Last year Honda announced plans to introduce its new fuel-cell vehicle in 2015, but now Honda has revealed that those plans have been delayed until 2016. Also with the announcement of the delay, Honda has also revealed an updated version of the FCV concept, which previews the production version that will go on sale in Japan in March 2016.
The next-generation Honda fuel-cell vehicle will have room for up to five passengers and thanks to a new fuel-cell powertrain that completely fits under the hood, there will be even greater passenger space than its predecessor, the FCX Clarity. Honda has also revealed that the powertrain will have more than 100kW of power output, while the stack size has been reduced 33 percent compared to the Honda FCX Clarity. Honda is targeting a driving range of more than 300 miles with a quick refueling time of about three to five minutes.

One of the biggest hurdles for fuel-cell vehicles is the fact that the infrastructure is not quite there yet to support a new range of hydrogen powered vehicles. In an effort to support the wider introduction of fuel-cell vehicles, Honda will make an announcement at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show about its commitment to help expand and accelerate California’s public hydrogen refueling station network.
