The Honda Passport is officially back and now production of Honda’s newest SUV has kicked off at its plant in Alabama. The 2019 Honda Passport goes on sale early next year and will slot in between the CR-V and Pilot in Honda’s SUV lineup.
The 2019 Honda Passport is based on the same platform at the Pilot, but instead of having three rows of seats, the shorter Passport only seats five passengers. It’s supposed to be positioned as a more rugged, SUV for buyers that want something bigger than the CR-V, but that don’t need the extra space that the Pilot provides.
The 2019 Passport is powered by a 3.5L V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft. of torque, that’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system uses active torque vectoring to send up to 70 percent of engine torque to the rear axle and 100 percent of that torque to either the left or right rear wheels.
