Honda, Toyota and Shell have teamed up to introduce more hydrogen refueling stations in California, thanks to a $16,362,500 grant from the California Energy Commission that was awarded to Equilon Enterprises LLC a subsidiary of Shell Oil Company. The grant money will be used to build seven hydrogen refueling stations in Northern California.
“Toyota and Shell have a long-standing relationship in support of hydrogen infrastructure development, dating back to the 2009 opening of Shell’s only dedicated hydrogen refueling station at our facility in Torrance, California,” Craig Scott, Advanced Technology Vehicle senior manager, Toyota Motor North America, said. “Toyota is excited to work with such a forward-thinking energy company as we transition to a cleaner, hydrogen future.”
The seven Shell-branded hydrogen refueling stations will be spread across Northern California: three in the city of San Francisco, and one in each of Berkeley, Sacramento, Citrus Heights and Walnut Creek. The seven new stations will make it easier for buyers to make the switch to the latest fuel cell vehicles, like the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell and Toyota Mirai.
