Automotive News is reporting that GM North America president, Mark Reuss would love to add a high volume rear-wheel-drive sports car to the Chevy lineup. The modestly priced coupe would go head to head with models like the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S coupes.
“A really nice, light, rear-drive car that’s inexpensive — we know that rings a bell,” stated Ruess. The coupe is currently not on the drawing board, but Ruess used strong feedback from the Chevy Code 130R rear-wheel-drive coupe concept to support the new model. Although the Code 130R concept from last year did perform favorably on the auto show circuit, if GM does green light a new coupe, it will not look the Code 130R, since that design is already dated. The coupe would be priced in the mid-$20k range and it’s also unlikely that it would be built on the Alpha platform that is the basis for the Cadillac ATS.
